Medieval Bruges Christmas Market
This festive season, visit the charming Christmas market of Bruges, one of Europe’s best medieval towns. In the heart of the old town, surrounding the glistening ice skating rink, explore the quaint wooden chalets, illuminated with colourful lighting, selling an array of enticing goodies. Be tempted by delicious cuisine, unusual handmade gifts and traditional Christmas decorations. A must is a box of their world-famous chocolates.
Picture-perfect cobbled lanes, peaceful canals and prehistoric market squares, churches, spires and towers, ‘The Venice of the North’, as it is known, is like an open-air museum. As expected from one of Europe’s best preserved medieval towns, you’ll find inspiring architecture aplenty. At the heart of the city, explore the ‘Markt’ and perhaps enjoy a ride in a traditional horse and carriage or take a journey by boat through the city, one of the most tranquil ways to see the sights. Walk further afield from the cobblestone lanes of the centre and you’ll see that Bruges is reminiscent of times gone by, with mostly pedestrianised streets. Relax in one of the pavement cafés and soak up the romantic atmosphere, or en-joy a glass or two of Belgian beer.

Credit card payments are taken at the hypermarkets (when using your credit card - you must present your passport). We suggest you ring your credit card company before shopping in France and Belgium – increased fraud means they are turning down shopper’s cards if their spending deviates from the norm. Take your mobile – you can often sort the problem out over the phone.
