Day Trips to Beautiful Gardens

24/03/2017 10:33:36

Whether you’re a gardening enthusiast or simply looking for a day of relaxing, we have day trips coming up to some inspiring gardens around the country that are just waiting to be explored. There’s no better time to visit, with fresh bursts of seasonal colour and warmer weather making them perfect for a springtime wander…

Colchester & Beth Chatto Gardens – Wednesday 12 April 2017
A world-famous garden, the six-acres are sure to offer inspiration for all; Beth Chatto is one of the most influential gardeners in our time. Before 1960, it was an overgrown wasteland between two farms and is today split into four main areas in a classic design. The Scree, Gravel, Woodland, and Water Garden all feature once-unusual and rare plants. So whether it’s the water plants or the delicate plants in the Scree Garden, there’s always something to see. Our day trip also includes a lunch stop at Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town.

Hestercombe Gardens – Sunday 30 April 2017
Hestercombe is an exquisite display of formal gardens spanning three centuries of garden history which harmonises with the surrounding Somerset countryside. A visit here will provide you with fifty acres of inspirational gardening styles, including a Georgian landscape garden, a Victorian terrace and shrubbery, an Edwardian garden design, and lakeside paths. A must-see for anyone interested in garden design.

Exbury Gardens and Cream Tea – Thursday 18 May 2017
A perfect garden to visit this time of year, they offer a riot of spring colour and the world-famous Rothschild collection of rhododendrons and azaleas should be at their best. The 200-acres of natural beauty and horticultural variety were designed by Lionel de Rothschild in 1919, and it was his ambitious plans that today make it one of the finest woodland gardens in the UK. Admission is also included for the 20-minute train journey aboard the steam railway, and a traditional Cream Tea with a homemade scone, jam and clotted cream, tea or coffee will be served in Mr Eddy’s Tea Room on site during the afternoon.
