Need a day out during the May Bank Holiday weekend? See the charms of Arundel in West Sussex or choose our trip with admission included to the magnificent Arundel Castle.
The picturesque market town captures the essence of heritage, urban chic and country pursuits, all within a stone’s throw of London. Discover the heritage of the town’s one thousand year history as you browse its town centre, which offers plenty for every kind of shopper with a plethora of antique shops, boutiques and art galleries.
Dominating its skyline is Arundel Castle. Set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and commanding views across the South Downs, the castle has a significant history. Since 1067 it has been the seat of the Duke of Norfolk, and today houses a grand and rare collection of furniture, paintings, tapestries and more in the carefully preserved rooms, from the Armoury and Barons’ Hall to the beautiful Regency library.
For the Bank Holiday Weekend, the Castle goes back in time to 1475 and will be filled with the sounds of battle and conflict to show the importance of artillery in taking a castle, and as a battle field weapon, skirmishes between the two sides and crafts, costumes and armour of the period.
